In what the Newgate Mission hopes is a new Christmas tradition, Alltel Wireless donated ten cell phones to the mission for use on Christmas. For the second year in a row, the local branch office for Alltel Wireless in Longview, California donated the cell phones for use by the mission's needy.

The mission has been offering food and goodies to their areas needy and less fortunate for years, and now offers phone calls to loved ones. Some of the staff of the Newgate Mission over hears some of the conversations that take place and could not be more grateful to Alltel for providing the service. The staff has witnessed (overheard) many overdue reunions over the phones these past two years.

If you have received a new Verizon Wireless phone for Christmas, then you are one of the lucky ones who don't have to deal with the potential headaches of transferring your contacts. Verizon Wireless makes the whole process of getting your new cell phone ready for use.

On the Verizon Wireless Website, they now offer The Backup Assistant. The Backup Assistant lets you store your address book online. This is for the easy transfer of your numbers when you upgrade your phone. It is also a good option in case your phone becomes lost or stolen. Backup Assistance can be found online at the Verizon's Get It Now store.

Wireless Phones not yet Illegal in Chicago!

According to attorney Blake Horwitz, using your wireless phone while driving is not yet illegal in the City of Chicago, even though the City started enforcing the ban in 2005. Blake Horwitz claims that the City has not properly enacted the law that it is enforcing. According to the law, 625 ILCS 5/11207, it requires the city to properly post signage stating that the use of wireless phones while driving is illegal. There are still no such signs posted within the City of Chicago.

Because of this, Blake Horwitz filed a class action lawsuit against the city, claiming the more than 25,000 violations/arrests over the past two years were then in fact illegal. Mr. Horwitz does specialize in police misconduct and the firm he works for has sued the city over 100 times. The suit states that all the arrests were illegal and the City of Chicago needs to return the $75 fine to all those arrested prior to the signage going up. If Mr. Horwitz wins the case, the City of Chicago will have to refund almost $2 million in received fines.

Sprint Wireless Subscribers To Get NFL Plays Live!!!

Sprint Wireless has cut a deal to allow wireless subscribers to see key plays in NFL football games live. Sprint subscribers will be able to watch drives inside the 20 yard line and other key plays on their mobile phones as they happen, the company said Monday.

The deal calls for the NFL Network to produce a live, three-hour program that will be streamed live on NFL.com and to Sprint subscribers. It will include both game highlights and live coverage when a team enters the red zone and at other "critical moments" in a game.

"Sprint continues to drive innovation with NFL fans," said Steve Gaffney, Sprint's director of sports sponsorships. "Fans tell us they want to have the ability to watch live NFL game broadcasts on their phones, and we're enabling them to do that."

The service is available free to Sprint customers with newer phones who subscribe to the Power Vision network, the company's high-speed phone-based Internet service. Sprint said more than 1 million people had downloaded its NFL Mobile software.
